Here’s a checklist that you need to consider before deciding to resign from the company:
Is the position offered better?
Or is there an opportunity to master a new field or position (for example, a leadership role – previously an individual contributor) that is more challenging?
If the position is the same, why do you resign? #personaldevelopment
Is the salary + benefits offered, balanced with the risks I have to take?
What are the risks?
- Probation period
- re-adjustment with the team and superiors
- adaptation to the product or service, workflow, system, etc.
- plus there is a possibility of not qualifying within 3 months.
If you don’t pass = you might be jobless again – it’s your turn to look for work, in this pandemic era, it takes time, of course. Who can guarantee you will immediately get a job in 1-2 months?
Am I sure I can do the job satisfactorily in terms of skills, and do the KPIs & expectations for the role realistic?
If you’re unsure, think again, what’s the difference with today’s companies where you have got job security / have passed probation?
Is the new company better than the current company?
Better = stable on current financial condition, growing business and industry.
Good product/service = not volatile with a stable target market.
Lest you suddenly move, the company closes or you get fired because company business is down.
Be understanding the product/service being sold, is it needed by a lot of people or is it a very targeted market? The more exclusive = the smaller the customer pyramid = the more difficult selling. Not to mention if there are many competitors, pay attention to price vs product, easy to sell or hard to sell. Don’t fall into a scam.
Is the work environment positive? How’s Teamwork? Is there a lot of turnover rate? How is the working situation there?
Try to find out from former employees, or read company reviews on Glassdoor. You can also see the working period of the employees in the company, how long on average have they worked there?
If the average employee is new, even though the company has been around for a long time, or even an “old” company – could it be that the environment is less harmonious?
In conclusion:
Work = Just like having a girlfriend, there must be a lot of temptation.
If it’s just because another girl is cute or pretty, make you dump your girlfriend. Turns out that you are then disappointed because your new crush is fierce, not to mention that the new girlfriend is annoying. (Ouch!)
Then, you want to go back to your old girlfriend? Well, she doesn’t necessarily want to #thankyounext
So, don’t just because of salary, with the lure of benefits that seem cool, then we become confused and forget about other potentials that we can achieve in the current company if we focus a little more.
If we decide to leave what we have for something (likely) more ‘cool’ —>> but regret it in the next 3-4 months, it’s still a loss, right?
The choice is yours.
Choose well and hopefully, the choice is the best for your future.
